In contrast to the cities like Tokyo, Japan`s northern countryside is less familiar but it can be extremely captivating for people who love nature. One of those people is the Japanese photographer Sho Shibata who has managed to capture on camera an army of snowmen that look like they were concocted by the White Witch from the movie Chronicles of Narnia. What you are about to see are actually fir trees under a blanket of snow.
Here is what Shibata thinks of this isolated mountain range: “This is my favorite place to visit when it is cold like this. It transforms into a wonderland. What is incredible is how [the trees] all look so similar. They look like snow monsters; like they are ghosts.”
The Hakkoda Mountains have one of the most picturesque scenic views in Japan but seeing the intriguing “snow creatures” are worth the trip alone.
